JXPie -- X Protocol Interpreter, Everywhere
|
JXPie is an X Window System server, written in pure JavaTM.
JXPie enables UNIX/X application access from all Java-enabled
desktops, or Java-enabled browsers.
JXPie stands for "X Protocol Interpreter, Everywhere".
Features
- JXPie is written in pure Java.
Its byte-codes measure about 150KBytes in JAR format.
- JXPie depends on
PersonalJavaTM.
We have also provided an X Window System server, which
depends on Java2SETM,
WiredX.
- JXPie accepts X window protocols(X11R6.3), directly.
-
JXPie does not need a proxy program.
Some Javanized X servers have existed already.
They, however, need a proxy program, which translates X protocols to
proprietary protocols.
- XDMCP has been supported.
- JXPie supports black & white, monotone and 8-depth color.
- JXPie supports only the core protocol of X.
Significance
PersonalJava is a Java Application Environment for
network-connectable applications
on personal consumer devices for home, office, and mobile use.
There is a posibility that
JXPie runs on those personal consumer devices.
We think that even consumer devies need
the simple remote displaying systems in some situations and
X Window System will be one of candidates. JXPie can be downloaded
to consumer dvices on demand requets and will play an important role
in some situations.
Pre-Beta Release
JXPie pre-beta release is available. This release is
free for non-commercial use or evaluational use.
Current release is in pre-beta status and
there are many problems; for example, in redering the display image,
flickers occur.
This release will expire at 01-Feb-2002.
We have checked that this release
has run on PersonalJava Emulation Environment 1.1 .
